Day Twenty-two Statistics:

Route: US 77
Cities Traveled Through: Ricardo, Riviera, Sarita, Raymondville
Motel: Tall Palms Motel ($31.80)
Comments: The winds died down a little overnight, but were still over 10 MPH when I left before 6 AM. The temperature didn't decrease too much overnight so I still didn't get much relief there. With the mugginess, it felt even warmer. I needed to stock up on supplies in Riviera (16 miles south of Kingsville) since there would be a stretch of about 56 miles with nothing for service. The heat really bothered me, but I had plenty of liquid since I bought six 20 oz. beverages in Riviera. They never really kept cold as I expected. The winds really started to pick up the farther I went. Once again, there were portions where I had trouble maintaining a speed of 10 MPH. I can't believe how many problems I've had with the winds, especially the last three days. Tomorrow is supposed to be the same story! Luckily, I only have about 60 miles left, so it can't do too much to stop me now. I seriously thought about going further today, but decided against it since the heat was really starting to get dangerous. My bike speedometer read 100 degrees. I got a room at the Tall Palms Motel. I have a nice room, but there is NO phone! I sure hope my bike holds up for just one more day! I know I'm getting close to Mexico since I saw a border patrol vehicle which picked up this person heading north on 77. The pickup got him right before I would have approached him.
