Comments: I left Falls City about 6 AM headed south. The temperature started at 70 degrees early in the morning. I was fairly comfortable for the first 30 miles or so. The wind was strong from the south once again so my progress was slow. I stopped in Atchinson for dinner at Wendy's then headed toward Leavenworth. It was during this stretch when the heat really began to get get to me. It was almost unbearable. Any liquid that I had was quickly warm. Along with the humid conditions, it was a very uncomforable day for cycling. Finally I got near Kansas City and the heat really started affecting me. I couldn't go very fast at all and started to feel chills. I knew this couldn't be good. I sprayed some water on me to bring relief for 30 seconds or so. Even once I got to Olathe, it took me forever to find a hotel. I finally found a gas station and he directed me to the Best Western. Luckily they didn't kick me out since I wasn't 21. It was expensive, but I was in no condition to look for alternatives. Tomorrow, the winds are supposed to be from the northwest. Last time I was told this by the weather service, they were wrong, so I am not really expecting these conditions.
