Comments: I didn't get to start until about 11:00 AM today since I had to take my bike to the Bellevue shop (True Wheel) to get the back rim replaced. I wasn't sure if I should just get a new spoke for the damaged one, but I decided not to take any chances. The brake had been hitting the spokes so much so I figured the other spokes were quite damaged as well. I also got an insulated water bottle which seems to work well (it should since it cost $9). I got some tools and gloves in addition. I didn't get to start with the relief of early morning coolness. Last night, there was a big thunderstorm that I slept straight through. Today was extremely muggy and warm. Although it was slightly cooler than yesterday, it was still very uncomfortable. The road was busy heading south on 75 and I was feeling rather strange. It's hard to explain, but it was just a very weird experience. I was extremely hot once I made it to Nebraska City, so I stopped at the local Dairy Queen. I was also pleased to see they had a Schwinn dealer. It's nice to see bike shops in some of the smaller towns. As I left Nebraska City, 75's shoulder totally disappeared. It was terrible. There were numerous dangerous curves where I couldn't see any traffic at all, so I was forced to look behind me every 20 seconds or so. Whenever I saw a vehicle (which was very often) I had to ride in the grass which slowed me to about 6 or 7 MPH. Finally, about 5 miles before Auburn, the shoulder reemerged. I stopped at Hardee's for ice cream and a drink, then made my way to Falls City where I stayed at the Stephenson Motel. I sure hope the rain stays away for tomorrow. The one thing nice about this area is that there are many towns along the way of significant size in case I need to end the day early for any reason. In North Dakota, there can often be stretches over 100 miles with no hotels.
