Day Three Statistics:
Route: Business I-94
Cities Traveled Through: Valley City
Comments: I left my motel around 9:30 thinking I would get to Fargo early since I would be meeting my friend, Jason. After going down the street about a half mile, my tire that I just replaced popped. Knowing that I got a good start I was thinking I would have plenty of time to fix the tire and still get to Fargo in good time. I thought I had the tube replaced again and it immediately popped once I rode down the road. Since I only had one spare tube left after this, I didn't want to risk the same occurence immediately. I checked the local phone book for a bike shop. There was none in Valley City. I did see a sporting goods store, so I decided to walk there. I bought an extra tube for $2.75, but they didn't have a spare tire. I went to Pamida after walking all the way across town for over a half an hour. I looked around in the bike area. They had no tires my size. Then I called my mom and see told me she knew a guy named Jerry Schmidt that she calls for work. He met me at Pamida and drove me around the city. No place had any tires. Finally, we went to his office and looked for the number for the bike store in the nearest city, Jamestown. Unfortunately, they just went out of business. So, he found a place in Fargo. He let me borrow his car and drive to Fargo to have my tire checked out! After spending over $45 just to get a new tire and tube put on the rim, I drove back to Valley City. Although it was late, I tried to start for Fargo again. Much to my usual frustration, the tube immediately popped again. I could not believe my problems. I was going to walk all the way across town to find a hotel. As I was walking, Jerry happened to drive by and notice me. I told him my story and he let me stay at his house until 10:20 PM when I met my sister and friend in Valley City. They gave me a wonderful meal and use of the shower. I was REALLY lucky to find such great people. My sister and friend drove me to Fargo where I spent the night. I would drive back to Valley City and try to ride the distance on bike tomorrow.
