It Shouldn't Hurt to be a Child

For Children ages 4-17 who have experienced trauma in the home due to:

· Witnessing abuse

o Physical

o Emotional

o Verbal

Divorce and separation and are experiencing difficulties related to these problems.

For a child to participate in the program we will need:

· the child's parent or guardian written permission

· release of information form signed by the child's parent or guardian intake interview

Weekly group meetings with children including:

· A confidential setting where children can talk and be listened to

· Information to help the child make changes in behavior and improve self-image and self-confidence

o Skills building in personal relationships and social skills

o Defining abuse

o Decreasing feelings of responsibility

o Prevention of abuse through education, activities & protection planning

· Parent support group

o Parenting strategies

o Child development

o Non-violent discipline

o Effects of abuse & trauma

· Weekly children's activities involving:

o Activities and games to help a child become comfortable & relaxed

o Cooperation without competition

· Community resources and education

o Professional in-service

o Speakers available to groups and organizations

o Speakers available to schools and churches
