Old
Decals Falling Apart
-
If you have a
very old set of Champ Decals and it falls apart when soaking, a simple
method to help the decal is to spray a couple light coats of clear
overcoat spray. Spray the first coat, let dry and then spray another
coat and let dry overnight. In most cases, this will hold the decal
together. The clear overcoat can be acrylic or a lacquer type, the
same type you may use on your models. Make sure that it is a gloss
overcoat spray.
Storing
-
The first thing to be aware
of is that storing your decals is very important. Keep them from sunlight
(or even fluorescent lighting for long periods) and humidity, and
leave them in their original packaging. The envelopes we use block
out most light and because we don't seal them, air circulates around
keeping them fresh.
- Cutting
-
Cut the decal as close
to the image area as possible. It is helpful to cut at an outward
angle from the image area. This, in essense, "shaves" the
edge, and the lines won't be as apparent.
-
You will need a decal solvent
for application. We recommend Champ's DECAL-SET, which is the ORIGINAL
decal setting solution. This solution can be diluted with water to
slow down the softening & binding effect. Your decal will actually
become part of your model with the use of DECAL-SET. This is a One-Step
solution, no need for two solution methods!!
- Can't
See White Lettering on Light Blue Paper?
-
We have specific requirements
for our decal film, but unfortunately we have no control over the
color of the backing paper our decals are printed on. It is very hard
to see our white ink on the light blue paper, but there is an "easy
fix" to this problem. Simply use a marker (one that bleeds) and
color the back side of the decal paper until it bleeds through to
the underside of the decal film. This will make it easier to see what
you're cutting and will not damage the decal film when soaked off.
We've tried several brands of markers, but you might want to try your
marker on an un-needed portion of decal to make sure it won't damage
your decal.
