Remarks Once again today started off well. The temperature was in the lower 50s with calm winds. The shoulder on US 23 was fine all the way until I got into Virginia when it disappeared and left only sharp gravel to ride on for quite a bit of the time. Sometimes a paved shoulder would reappear but not for long. Still, it wasn't too bad of a ride. The temperature wasn't too hot and the winds weren't bothersome. I don't know what it is about crossing state borders and having the shoulder disappear. It seems like this happens quite often. Around five in the afternoon I made it to today's destination.
