Champ's DECAL-SET (the original!)

DECAL-SET is a powerful solvent type binding agent that fuses the decal film permanently into the painted surface. Its purpose is to overcome the chemical reaction and oxidation peculiar to many synthetic and lacuqer base paints made for use by modelers. With so many varied paints with different repelling tendencies it was apparent that a powerful binding agent be produced to overcome such action.

DECAL-SET is especially useful on irregular surfaces where protruding detail (louvres, rivet detail, seams, etc.) prevent uniform contact. When applied in such cases the decal film is reduced to a semi-liquid state allowing it to settle down into and between the irregular detail.

Champion Decal Company was the originator of this type of solvent adhesive. DECAL-SET will not harden or dry out. It is the strongest solution of its kind on the market, but can be diluted with pure water to slow down the action.

Freight Car Lettering Plan Books

Champ's Freight Car Lettering Plan Books have been around for a very long time. They are basically 2 different compilations of lettering plans for various freight cars from the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's era. A lettering plan will show you where to place certain lettering on the model, as well as what color the railroad car should be. Each book is divided in sections for Box Cars, Freight Reefers, Express Reefers, Covered Hoppers, Open Top Hoppers, Gondolas, Flat Cars, Auto Racks, Piggybacks, Tank Cars, Stock Cars and Cabooses.

Although Champ decal set catalog numbers are referenced in the books, they are by no means to be used as a catalog as many of these decal sets are no longer available. You will need to reference this Online Catalog to be sure an item is still available.

Champ's Freight Car Lettering Plan Book Number Two - This is a compilation of lettering plans produced by Champ from the 1940's up through 1965. Approximately 611 freight car plans are included in this book, representing 208 different railroads and private owner cars. ($8.00, includes special shipping/handling)

Champ's Freight Car Lettering Plan Book Number Three - This is a compilation of lettering plans produced by Champ from the 1965 through 1991. Approximately 220 freight car plans are included in this book, representing many different railroads and private owner cars. This book does include less lettering plans than Book Number Two, but many of the plans include more detailed information about numbering sequences etc. Some of the plans in this book are repeats from Plan Book Number Two, but again, those would be updated and include more information.
